about Me
Tony Rio
I have been playing music in the northwest for over 30 years; Country, Rock, and Blues. Twelve years ago, I got Jesus and it turned my life around. I started playing worship with a friend and a few years later, became a worship leader. I now live in the Heart of Texas. I enjoy playing both genres of music. I am looking forward to meeting you.
BIOGRAPHY

My interest in music has been life long, since I heard the Beatles on the radio. It was not just limited to the pop of the day. I loved Rhythm and Blues, Do Wop, anything with a good melody. When I was 14, I set up a bunch of oil drums we had around our rental house along with some baking sheets my mom threw out (as cymbals) up in a metal shed out back. I fashioned a couple of limbs into sticks and wa-la I had my first drum set. A few years later, I saved up my newspaper route money and bought a drum kit (to my mother’s chagrin). I found out quickly you needed to spend some money to purchase cymbals. (The ones I received with the kit sounded awful).
At 18, I was gigging with different bands, none that really stood out. The paying gigs at the time were in country music, so that’s where I went. Because of this, I fell in love with country music. I played drums and sang lead and back-up for eight years, all the while wood shedding with guitar, and writing songs. I was playing in Alaska, when I received a small inheritance from my grandparents. I promptly went down and purchased an Auto-orchestra. (an instrument that allows one to do a one man show). I left Alaska, came home (Portland), and practiced with the new machine for three months. I learned how to kick base while playing guitar and singing.
I immediately got a gig and went to work. For the next ten years, I did a single, upgrading equipment along the way until I was singing and playing to midi and mp3 files (with the lead vocals missing, like Karaoke). Around 2010 most gigs dried up and I played intermittently until I had a come to Jesus moment. After being pulled over for speeding and thinking this will be my fifth DUI, I was let go with a warning (it was not deserved. I believe to this day there must have been some divine intervention). I finally realized it was time, with Jesus, to give up drinking and smoking pot.
I got involved in the church and started playing worship music and a few years later wound up being Worship Leader. Encouraged by Pastor Floyd, with the help of the Holy Spirit, I wrote several worship songs and made two albums. They are included on this site for your listening pleasure.
I also included, on this site, several secular songs written in the 70’s. I hope you enjoy the music!. I do this not for myself, but for the Glory of the Holy Spirit, God, the Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ
All songs are copy-written.
My other interests include photography of birds, animals, sunsets and flowers! (some pics included on this web site. Check out my Facebook site: “Tony Rio” for more)
